These are ancient writings about the people, events and text of the Bible as well as modern writings about these ancient writings. These books are a window into the past people and culture of the Bible that will enhance the understanding of the Bible.
Dead Sea Scrolls
A series of caves were discovered in 1948 that contained 2,000 year old scrolls of the Bible, pseudapigrapha and other texts pertaining to the sect of people who stored these scrolls. Some of these books contain the texts of these scrolls while others explain the history of the scrolls and community.
Historians
These are the writings of ancient historians about the people and events of the Bible. Their writings will provide background information about the Bible otherwise unknown to us.
Pseudepigrapha
These are ancient writings of the Jewish people written at the same time period as the Bible but were not included in the Canon of the Bible. These writings are closely related to the Biblical text in content but include stories, persons and events not found in the Bible. Often these books go into greater detail of persons, stories and events of the Bible providing us with greater understanding of the Biblical text.
Apocrypha
These are writings of the Jewish people between the Babylonian captivity and the first century CE (New Testament era).
Extra-Biblical
These are ancient writings not related to the Biblical text but still beneficial to the study of the ancient Hebrew people, language and culture.
