Mr Fried's book uniquely provides an etymological dictionary based on the sounds of the words. The theory is that each sound group (ie: dentals - d and t; labials - b, p, v, w, f; etc.) has a meaning and as these sounds are combined into words, the word can be defined based on the sounds. The majority of the book is an etymoligical dictionary breaking down each Hebrew word into its sound groups and possible meanings based on the sounds. The introduction to the book is in Hebrew and English but the dictionary is all in Hebrew.

Description: Top

The Analytic and Synthetic Etymology of the Hebrew Language is an etymological dictionary. It identifies the fundamental concepts used by the language to describe reality, then breaks down all the roots current in the Hebrew language into these constituent components to elicit their inherent and basic meaning. The root analysis is done in Hebrew but the book contains an English introduction detailing this method of conceptual and grammatical analysis.
